Tracing Your Family History Post 1855

Statutory registration of births death, and marriages began on the 1st January 1855 when it became a legal requirement to register and record all such events. The information contained in these records has evolved over the years, but the amount of information recorded is the envy of many countries. The country was divided into registration districts (link to list of districts). These districts were normally based on the old parish districts. However many of these districts became amalgamated due to a decrease in population and due to an increase in population new districts had to be created. We also examine the census records of 1861- 1911 inclusive. The amount of information varied from census to census.

Although prior to 1855 we also include the Scottish Census records of 1841 and 1851 in this option.
